Welcome to the Hilderstone web site.

We hope that it will be useful to villagers and visitors alike by providing an insight into the village and the activities which go on in the village. Further information will be added as time goes by. All suggestions to improve the site are most welcome.

Hilderstone is in Staffordshire, situate on the B5066, approximately 4 miles from the centre of Stone and 12 miles from Uttoxeter. A map showing the location of the village is on the Location page. The village is set in rolling countryside and still retains much of its original character. The village dates back to 670 AD, and signs of strip and terrace system of farming are still clearly evident today. There are two references to the village in the Doomsday Book, when it was known as Heldulvestone.

We have a fine church, designed by Thomas Trubshaw an architect from Colwich, a village hall, recently extended and refurbished, and a lovely old pub! This is the Roe Buck, which will be delighted to have your custom.

Presently on the web site you will find information as to the Parish Council, information as to the Village Hall and the activities there, details relating to the Women’s Institute (with a subsidiary page with yet more information about the WI), and some information about the church. Also included is a directory of e-mail addresses relating to the village. There is a page of News about the village (replacing the hard copy Hilderstone Village News) and  a page about HALT which is campaigning to make Hilderstone a safer place. More are awaited.

To access the page you wish to read click on the relevant button in the left margin or on the relevant hypertext (that which is coloured red). You will then be taken to the page you require.

We hope you enjoy our site. Please come and visit the village whenever possible. Comments on the web site are invited. Kindly e:mail them to webmaster@hilderstone-staffs.co.uk
